Sharmaine Shirley Ward Davenport “Maine” was born on January 3, 1953 to James Willis Ward
and Shirley Lucille Anderson Ward in Des Moines, Iowa. She accepted Christ and was
Baptized at an early age.

Sharmaine attended Logan Elementary in Des Moines, IA, Normandie Elementary, John Muir
Middle School, Crenshaw High, Bryman Nursing School and Southwest College in Los Angeles,
CA..

Sharmaine met her husband Gregory Alan Davenport while attending John Muir Middle School
in Los Angeles at the age of 13. Sharmaine and Gregory married at the age of 19 and within
their union, 4 children and 6 grandchildren were born.

At the age of 19, Sharmaine and Gregory tied the knot. Together, they had four
children, and six grandchildren were born later.

After graduating from Bryman Nursing School, Sharmaine began her 40 year nursing career at
Union Medical Clinic in Huntington Park, as a Nurse Supervisor, at Avalon Slauson Medical
Group, at Little Company of Mary, and Torrance Memorial.

Sharmaine’s nurturing personality was seen and felt by her children, grandchildren, family
members and friends. It was no surprise that she was the best nurse you could have. She loved
to help people. A true “people person” with healing hands and a compassionate heart.
Sharmaine enjoyed music, especially the “blues”. She attended many music concerts and
festivals. Sharmaine loved to dance and won dance contests as a teenager. When her jam
came on, it was hard for her to sit in her seat especially when she heard that bass.
Next to her mother, “Maine” was the best cook ever! Always prepared a succulent Prime Rib for
Christmas dinner for her family to enjoy and let us not forget the potato salad everyone asked
her to make at their gatherings. She made every dish taste delicious.

Family gatherings were something Maine did often. Holidays, Birthdays or Graduations you
name it! There was always something or someone to celebrate and she was always right there
to do so. She even enjoyed quiet evenings at home watching her favorite shows and talking with
her friends and family on the phone catching up on things.

On Sunday November 5, 2023 surrounded by love and all four of her children, Sharmaine was
granted eternal peace. Sharmaine was preceded in death by her parents James and Shirley
