Michael Nemmers

Michael Britt Nemmers, 66, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 21, 2018 following a courageous 18 year battle with Stage IV Cancer.

Mike was born February 22, 1952 in Iowa City, IA to Donald and Beverly (Johnson) Nemmers.  Mike graduated from Cedar Falls High School and Embry Riddle University.  Mike served in the U.S. Army before working as an Air Traffic Controller.  He was most recently employed at Wells Fargo Mortgage where he was a Computer Programmer.

Mike enjoyed life!  He loved the Chicago Bears, Chicago White Sox, and the Iowa Hawkeyes.  On weekends, he enjoyed golfing and boating.  He loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his four grandchildren.  Mike accepted Christ as his personal Savior on May 3, 2017.  He loved Saylorville Church and his small group.  Mike was an amazing husband, father, and friend.  The world is a better place because he was in it.

Mike’s memory will be cherished by his wife of 32 years, Anita Nemmers; daughter, Dr. Melissa (David) Billings; sons: Wesley Nemmers and, Blake (Andrea) Schultz; grandchildren: Michael Nemmers, Ashtyn Billings, Megan Billings and Clara Schultz; sisters: Vicki Smith and Deborah Valenta; brothers: Jim (Bonnie) Nemmers and Steve Nemmers; step siblings: Mike (Carrie) Thrall, Teri (Randy) Nordaker and Kris (Bryan) O’Leary; stepfather, Bill Thrall; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his father, Donald and mother, Beverly.

The family will greet friends from 5:00 - 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2018 at Saylorville Church (6429 NW 6th Dr., Des Moines, IA 50313).  Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Saylorville Church.  Interment will be at the Iowa Veteran’s Cemetery. 

The family would like to thank Dr. Behrens and staff and Unity Point Hospice for their care and comfort as well as the numerous calls, texts and visits from friends and family.
