Keith Krueger Obituary

Keith Alvin Krueger, of Ankeny, IA passed on to life eternal on May 21, 2021, after a brief but extremely courageous battle with liver disease. A celebration of life, including a special tree planting ceremony, will be held Friday, May 28th at 1:00 PM on the Krueger (Meyer) family farm that he loved so dearly.   Farm location: 1376 120th Ave, Welcome, MN 56181.
Keith, the son of Alvin and Betty Lou Krueger, was born in Fairmont, MN on December 10, 1947.  The oldest of five children (Duane, Darryl, Kevin & Joanne) they lived and learned the farming life.  After graduating from Welcome High School, he went on to further his education at Worthington Community College followed by Mankato State College (Minnesota State University, Mankato) with a degree in business.  After managing various men’s clothing stores in Minnesota and Iowa, Keith and his brother Duane opened their own men’s clothing store, KD Brother’s Men’s Wear in downtown Fairmont, MN.  No matter where he lived in, he was involved in his community.  This included, the Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis, the Downtown Association, the United Methodist Church and the Mason’s in Fairmont and the Lions Club in Ankeny.  After closing the store, he found his new passion in the insurance business which he was involved in until the very end.

In 1965, he married JoAnn Zahorsky.  Together they were blessed with the three girls, Kris, Wendy, and Stephanie.  This part of his life took him to Worthington, MN; Mankato, MN; St. Paul, MN; Mason City, IA; Fairmont, MN; Welcome, MN, Mankato, MN (again) and Marion and Cedar Rapids, IA. 
 

He was united in marriage to Paula Mueller Vaughn on June 2nd, 2001.  This union added Damon and Lezlee to his family.  His journey continued and took him to Spokane, WA; Stevensville, MT; Victoria, MN; and then to Ankeny, IA.

Left to cherish his memory: wife, Paula Mueller Krueger, Ankeny; Children: Kristine (Todd) Brockman of Mankato; Wendy (Darin) Brockman of Welcome; and Stephanie (Erik Engstrand) Maday of Eagle Lake; Stepchildren: Damon Vaughn, Cedar Rapids, IA; Lezlee (Ryan) Schutty, Ankeny, IA.  Grandchildren: Mara (Christopher Harrison, Jr); Jared, Alastair Brockman; Dylan and Elise (Lukas Poetter) Brockman; Sydney (Nick Sanford) and Jackson (Rylee Mensink) Maday.  Step Grandchildren: Jozie Vaughn; Chase, Carter, Colt Schutty.  Brothers: Duane (Claudia), Mendota Heights, MN; Darryl (Dee), Welcome, MN; Kevin (Cathie), Mankato, MN; and Sister Joanne (Clair) Schmidt, Ceylon, MN.  And many in laws, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents and grandparents, niece (Samantha) and nephew (Mathew) and various extended family.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ankeny Lions Club in care of Ouellette Funeral and Cremation Care  (2011 SE 6th St, Des Moines, IA 50315).
