Karen M. Smith

Karen M. Smith passed away on October 12th, 2023, peacefully at home in Ankeny, IA with family present.

Karen was born to Eugene and Millicent (Stoner) Ehrhardt in Fairfield, Iowa in 1939. She grew up on a farm with many siblings.

Karen married Ed Smith and had 6 children, 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

In Karen’s 84 years she met many friends and loved to play cards, especially bridge. Karen also loved to bake and made many delicious baked goods. Karen will be remembered for her skills at baking many different themed birthday cakes as well as her love for Christmas. She was a collector of many, many things, all of which she found great comfort being surrounded by and on display in her home.

Karen is survived by her sons Kevin, Perry, Collins, Darin, Marty and her daughter Marcie their spouses and 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Karen is also survived by her siblings Walter, Roger and Nancy Ehrhardt. She was preceded in death by parents Eugene and Millicent, siblings Robert (Bobby), Darrell, Jerry Ehrhardt and sister Rebecca (Becky) Jaeger.

The family will greet friends on Friday, November 10, 2023 at Our Lady's Immaculate Heart Church (210 E. First St. in Ankeny, IA) from 4pm to 6pm, a memorial service will start at 6pm. Refreshments and moms favorite baked goods will be provided.
