James William Snyder, 81, of Indianola, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at MercyOne Des Moines Medical Center.
He will be cremated, and a celebration will be held on November 24, 2024, at The Studio at 104 1/2 West 1st Ave. Indianola, IA. Open house from 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm
James William Snyder was born in Des Moines, IA, on February 6, 1943, to George James and Vera Lou (McLeran) Bell. He grew up in Des Moines and served our country in the United States Army.
After returning from Korea he worked at Armstrong Tire, before becoming a Police Officer in Des Moines. After working in the police force, he worked in various construction jobs: dry walling, concrete work of various types, bricklaying (which he did with his Uncle Jack), carpet laying, and more. He later worked for John Deere for several years.
James was a person who would give you his last penny if he thought you needed more than himself. He loved his family fiercely and did more for them selflessly than he should have at times. He loved astronomy, and some of his favorite shows revolved around outer space. And if you asked him how he was, even at his worst, he was always terrific!!
He is survived by his daughters, Laura and Kevin Thrasher of Jacksonville, MO., Tandi and Don Foust of Indianola, IA., Lee and Doug Page of Des Moines, IA, son Billy and Danielle Rice of Des Moines, IA. and brother James Keul of Des Moines, IA;
