James Cornelius

James L. Cornelius, known affectionately as Jim, passed away on August 15, 2024, in Des Moines, Iowa, at the age of 55. Born on June 9, 1969, in Baltimore, Maryland, Jim had a particular passion for fishing and hunting. He was a devoted fan of the Miami Dolphins, often seen sporting his favorite Dolphins hat worn backwards. He never missed an opportunity to remind non-Dolphins' fans of their undefeated season. His love for all of the above was only surpassed by his profound love for his sons.

Jim graduated from Solanco High School in 1988, excelling in Cross Country and track, earning medals in state competitions.

He is survived by his mother, Judith (Hamilton) Cornelius of Elizabethtown; sons, Cody Cornelius of Elizabethtown, Connor Cornelius, and Camryn Cornelius of the United Kingdom; sister, Patty Shipton and her husband Shawn of Elizabethtown; brother, Ed Cornelius and his wife Kristen of Maytown; niece, Sierra Mesaric and her husband Mike of Elizabethtown; nephews, Chase and Brady Cornelius of Maytown; and great-niece, Marnie Mesaric of Elizabethtown. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Clarence Edward Cornelius.

A private memorial service for Jim is being planned for immediate family. Jim's legacy of camaraderie will be fondly remembered and sorely missed by all who knew him.
