Dave Rees

David Lee Rees, 46, of Ankeny, IA died unexpectedly on Monday, March 19, 2018. Cremation rites will be accorded and a prayer service will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday March 26, 2018 at Our Lady’s Immaculate Heart Catholic Church (510 E. 1st St., Ankeny IA). The family will greet friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Monday at the church. 

Dave Rees was born on June 29, 1971 to Tim and Marie (Tunink) Rees in Des Moines, IA. He grew up near Elkhart and graduated from North Polk in 1989.  He married Sheila Rae Vaske on 9-05-98. They resided in Altoona, IA until moving to Ankeny, IA in 1999. He started working at PepsiCo. in 1997 as a route driver and diligently worked his way up through the company, ending his 20-year career as Food Service Senior Manager.  Dave joined Martin Brothers Distribution November of 2017.

Dave and Sheila welcomed a daughter, Rachael, on 7-03-02. Three years later they welcomed Ashley, on 8-17-05, completing their family. Dave had a true love for life.  He loved spending his free time with his family whether it be a quiet evening at home or traveling. He enjoyed watching Rachael and Ashley interact with their friends and never missed an activity. He spent lots of time teaching them various things to prepare for the future, every adventure was a learning opportunity for the girls. There was never a doubt if it could be fixed, Dave could fix it.  He enjoyed being outdoors and had a passion for fishing. He loved taking his annual trips to Canada to fish. He liked to talk about and teach others all he knew about fishing. Dave was always willing to help a friend/neighbor in need with a smile. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Sheila, daughters; Rachael and Ashley of Ankeny, IA; his parents Tim and Marie of Elkhart IA; grandfather Milo Rees of Guthrie Center, IA; sisters: Kris Rees of Johnston IA, Angie (Mike) Netser of Hills, IA, Julie (Geoffrey) Grimes of Ankeny IA, brother Russ Rees of Elkhart, IA, and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends.

In death Dave rejoins his sister, Lisa, his three grandparents John and Monica Tunink, Sophie Rees, and his Uncle Bob. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the Iowa State Savings Bank (222 E. Robinson St., Knoxville, IA 50138, 641-828-8000) for the benefit of Rachael and Ashley Rees College Savings Fund.
