Carolyn Hazel Brewer

Carolyn Brewer, 79, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2022 at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, IA after a short and courageous battle with cancer.  She will be cremated and the family will greet friends on Friday, March 25, 2022 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at  Ankeny Free Church, 118 Linden St., Ankeny IA 50023.  A Celebration of Life Service will be held Saturday, March 26th, 10:30 a.m. at Ankeny Free Church, 118 Linden St., Ankeny IA 50023, with a luncheon to follow.

Carolyn was born July 31, 1942 in Muncie, Indiana to Charles and Elizabeth (Betty) Jones.  Her early years were filled with love and many great memories of time spent with her parents, sister Diana and brother Butch.  She moved to Iowa in 1974, where she spent the rest of her life raising her children, making lifelong friendships and spreading joy to all who knew her. 

Throughout her life she worked various jobs including secretary, 4-H leader, telephone operator, and as a radio DJ and cooking show host.  But her favorite role of all was being the Children’s Ministry Director at Ankeny Free Church, a position she held up until the Lord called her home.  She loved teaching her “munchkins” about Jesus, and put her heart and soul into being the beloved Grandma Snacks.

One of Carolyn’s favorite sayings was “Choose Joy”, which she did every day of her life.  She always thought of other’s needs, and went out of her way to be a blessing to anyone she came in contact with.  She enjoyed music, reading, cooking and playing board games.  Most of all she enjoyed spending time with family and friends, and had a very special place in her heart for her grandchildren who she loved “to the moon and back”.  

Left to cherish her memory are her sister Diana (David) Harris, sons Kent Brewer and Andy (Melissa) Brewer, grandchildren Isaac & Cassie, nieces, great-nieces and nephews, and many dear friends.  

She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Butch, and stepfather Gerald Lorance.
